LEGACY Players win 10+ USTA Middle states awards!

Sunday March 8th, 2026

Every year, USTA Middle States awards 8 players per district (4 boys and 4 girls) who were the #1 ranked player in their age group. There are two Sportsmanship awards and numerous other awards including the Courage Award.

This year, LEGACY had 13 players win Middle States awards.

Zesen Wang – CPD & MS 16s #1 Ranked Player

Owen Guistwite – CPD 18s #1 Ranked Player

Katherine Jiao – DD 12s #1 Ranked Player

Caroline Jiao – DD 16s #1 Ranked Player and Sportsmanship Award Winner

Bodhi Knowles – EPD 12s #1 Ranked Player

Prayush Mallaiah – EPD 14s #1 Ranked Player

Sofia Basto-Cabrera – NJD 16s & MS #1 Ranked Player

Lillian Szasz – PATD 12s #1 Ranked Player

Erika Dunwoody – PATD 14s #1 Ranked Player

Eita Mishima – PATD 16s #1 Ranked Player

Jasmine Taylor – PATD 16s #1 Ranked Player

Carter McIlwain – Junior Sportsmanship Award

Keane Dougherty – Courage Award Winner

LEGACY Player Wins Courage Award

Keane Dougherty was awarded the Courage Award at the USTA Middle States Philadelphia Area Tennis District Awards for his perseverance, hard work and courage in playing while being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Here is a quote from the awards ceremony.

“Keane Dougherty has shown incredible perseverance over the past few years, overcoming a significant health challenge while continuing to pursue his love for tennis. What stands out most is his determination to stay on the court, competing in Junior Team Tennis, tournaments, and for his high school team. Balancing the demands of competition with managing his health hasn’t always been easy, but Keane has handled it with maturity, patience, and resilience beyond his years. It’s truly inspiring to see his commitment to the sport and the way he continues to push forward. Please join me in congratulating Keane.”
