Anthony Phillips visited LEGACY on Friday, March 13th to announce a new partnership with Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia that will provide up to 1,000 scholarships to participating programs, with LEGACY proudly included among them. The announcement marked an exciting step forward in expanding access to summer opportunities for local families.
Councilmember Phillips opened the press conference by speaking about the real challenges many families face when balancing the rising costs of summer camp and childcare, emphasizing how this program is designed to provide meaningful, much-needed relief. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that all children have access to safe, enriching environments during the summer months.
LEGACY President and CEO Ron Nano also addressed attendees, highlighting the wide-ranging benefits of LEGACY’s Community Tennis Summer Camp—from skill development and physical activity to mentorship and community-building. He shared that the scholarships provided through CSFP will fully cover the cost of seven weeks of camp, opening the door for more kids to participate in a transformative summer experience.
After the press conference, Council member Phillips didn’t just head out—he made his way onto the court to spend some time with the LEGACY kids. He took a few minutes to talk with them about their experiences, ask questions, and share some encouraging words about their hard work and dedication. The moment quickly turned into something even more special as he picked up a racquet and rallied with one of the LEGACY players.
LEGACY is very thankful to the Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia and the City Council for making this program and for choosing LEGACY as one of it’s partner programs.
