LEGACY Community Tennis Summer Camp

CTSC begins on June 22nd in 14 sites across the city! Registration opens January 5th for half and full-day sites!

What is community tennis summer camp?

For decades, LEGACY’s Community Tennis Summer Camp (CTSC) has been at the heart of LEGACY’s mission – bringing the joy of tennis and the power of positive youth development to hundreds of children each summer.

Our 7-week summer camp is more than just a reason to get out of the house, it’s an opportunity to learn a new sport, make life-long friends and unlock opportunity. Campers will learn how to play, how to lead and what it means to be a “LEGACY kid”

More than 75% of participants report high levels of peer bonding

More than 80% report high engagement with the program and a majority of campers report being able to try new things!

As an NJTL Chapter (National Junior Tennis & Learning) through the USTA, LEGACY players will also participate in reading/writing and art projects learning about tennis and civil rights icons like Arthur Ashe and Althea Gibson

LEGACY's JUNIOR INSTRUCTOR PROGRAM

LEGACY’s Junior Instructor (JI) program transforms our most promising young athletes into paid near-peer coaches – a first job for many of them, where they get to build workforce skills, leadership, and community impact through the game that they love.

LEGACY accepts JI’s at the age of 13 for those who are especially interested in coaching.

“By the time I turned 15, after many years as a LEGACY camper, I had the chance to become a Junior Instructor, my first real job. I had responsibility, authority, and the potential to be a role model.

I learned how to create the same welcoming environment that meant to much to me when I was little”

– Former LEGACY Junior Instructor.

86% of JI’s leave with strong career knowledge and skills, from resumes to interview preparation.

86% grow in essential life skills like collaboration, communication, and critical thinking.

79% strengthen their persistence and goal setting mindset, preparing them for challenges ahead.

57% expand their network of supportive adults, gaining mentors who last beyond the program.

Lunches and Snacks

Lunch is provided for full-day sites only. Lunches are provided to all full-day campers but may contain allergens like dairy, eggs, gluten etc. Please let us know if your child has any allergies at registration or by emailing us at frontdesk@legacyyte.org. Snack breaks will be taken throughout the day for both full-day and half-day camps. We encourage campers to bring lots of water and nutritious snacks to keep their energy up all summer!

In Case of Inclement Weather

Our camp is outdoor only! If it is raining before camp starts, we will not have camp and will reach out with a cancellation message. If it begins to rain during camp, we will email/text with instructions to pick up your child. In the instance of extreme heat indexes, programming may be canceled or end early for that day in consideration of our campers and staff. Primary family contacts will be notified by email/text. If camp is NOT canceled parents and/or guardians are encouraged to use their best judgment regarding attendance for children.

Drop Off/Pick Up

Please drop off your child no earlier than 8:45 AM, as staff will not be available before that time. While early pickups before 1:00 PM are permitted, we ask that all pickups be on time. If someone other than the usual adult will be picking up your child, please notify us in advance to ensure a safe and smooth dismissal.

Medication/Allergy Policy

Please let our LEGACY staff know about any food allergies your child may have so we can help keep them safe during lunch and snack time. All medications must be labeled and handed directly to a LEGACY staff member. Be sure to include clear instructions for use with the medication.

Electronic Device Policy

We kindly ask that unnecessary electronic devices be left at home. Cell phones are allowed, but should remain stored away during camp unless needed for an emergency. LEGACY is not liable for any lost, damaged, or stolen devices.

Behavior Policy

LEGACY expects all campers to listen to coaches and follow instructions. Misbehavior during breaks or refusing instruction will be brought to parents or guardians attention.
