Seven years ago, LEGACY partnered with the City of Philadelphia for the first time to create comprehensive Out-of-School Time programming for students at Alexander K. McClure Elementary School. From the beginning, our approach blended educational curriculum with tennis, teaching the game while also building life skills, strong character, and preparing students for success wherever their futures led them.
Today, LEGACY serves more than 400 children and families across four different schools throughout the city. And as our program has grown over the past seven years, we realized that simply calling it LEGACY’s OST program no longer fully captured who we are or the depth of what we provide.
So, we are excited to formally introduce Champions on the Rise, LEGACY’s comprehensive out of school time program.
The name Champions on the Rise is a reflection of our belief. Belief in our students, in their futures and that talent exists everywhere where opportunity does too.
On the tennis court, taking the ball on the rise is a choice. It’s a choice to move forward instead of waiting. To meet the challenge head-on and to open opportunities. It’s also a choice to hold your ground and to be resilient in the face of pressure.
That is what this program stands for. Meeting our students where they are and moving forward with them. Standing beside them in the classroom, on the court, or wherever their dreams take them.
Our incredible staff champions each student, creating spaces of safety, support and joy so every student knows they are seen, backed and capable of anything they put their minds to.
That’s Champions on the Rise. Not just preparing students for the next point but for the future they deserve.
