On December 14th, students from our McClure OST program participated in a read-aloud with local author Alyssa Reynoso-Morris of her book Platanos Are Love. The visit from Reynoso-Morris was paired with McClure’s Literacy Night with an array of educational activities and a chance for our students to connect with this amazing local author.
Alyssa Reynoso-Morris, who shared her latest book, Platanos Are Love. Inspired by her own grandmother, Reynoso-Morris captivated students with her storytelling, encouraging interaction by delving into the book’s illustrations and prompting questions throughout.
Following the reading, students eagerly lined up to have their books signed by the author and capture moments with her in photographs. To encourage reading beyond the event, a library was open to students, offering them the opportunity to take home books at no cost.
Students participated in many activities including arts and crafts, bingo, bookmark making, ABC Hopscotch and story time creating an interactive atmosphere. When students completed all 6 activities they were rewarded with a prize at the end of the event.
A huge thank you to our visiting author Alyssa Reynoso-Morris, McClure Principal Mr. Garcia, our Site Director Rosie Wood-Yesline, our Legacy OST Staff, McClure’s Teachers and all the kids and families that attended the Literacy Night.
