LEGACY Player Wins National NJTL Essay Contest

September 5, 2024

On August 23rd, LEGACY’s own Bodhi Knowles was honored in New York City as the 12 and Under Boys National Essay Contest winner. Bodhi’s essay was chosen from thousands of entries and centered around his older brother (and LEGACY coach) Gabe Knowles.

The three-day trip to New York City was jam packed with activities including US Open Fan Week events, ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange with tennis legend Chris Evert, and meeting some of the game’s biggest stars including Frances Tiafoe.  “We are incredibly proud of all of the student-athletes who submitted such thoughtful responses for this year’s NJTL essay contest, and it was an honor to celebrate the ten winners and their families in New York City,” said USTA Foundation CEO Ginny Ehrlich.

Bodhi’s winning essay answered the prompt “Who is your GOAT (greatest of all time)” in a very personal way. Bodhi wrote about his oldest brother Gabe and how he has been a continued inspiration for Bodhi as he progresses in his tennis journey. Gabe, a recent graduate and Division One tennis captain from Howard University, now coaches at LEGACY. “Gabe is my best friend and teaches me a lot about tennis, sports, school and things in general” writes Bodhi in his essay. Bodhi’s entire family attended the trip in New York City to support and celebrate his great accomplishment.

“He is the greatest brother, coach, friend, tennis player, and person”
