Legacy Youth Tennis and Education is a non-profit agency with deep-rooted history and tradition in neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia, Chester, and Camden.
The organization’s 16-court award-winning facility in East Falls serves as the center of its activities, but LEGACY and its coaches systematically extend programming into more than 40 parks, schools, and recreation centers every year. In fact, more than 60% of LEGACY’s programming occurs outside the LEGACY Center.

The Group Leader will work from approximately 8:00 am to 4:30 pm OR 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday from June 24, 2024 to August 2, 2024. The Group Leader reports to the Site Director and Group Supervisor. From 8:30 am to 12:00 noon each day, LEGACY summer staff will provide classroom support and management to the lead teacher from the School District of Philadelphia. After lunch, LEGACY OST staff will provide enrichment and camp programming. Primarily, the Group Leader will ensure student safety; support and assist in all activities; assist with attendance; snack distribution; site set up and break down; and maintain connection with parents and school personnel. Group Leaders are responsible for the implementation of program activities and services and will work with the team in teaching, coaching, mentoring, and facilitating literacy, social-emotional learning, enrichment activities, athletic development, arts and crafts and character education. The Group Leader should have a background in working with school-aged children in an educational setting (Teacher; Teacher’s Aid; Social Services; Human Services)
The Community Tennis Coach works in our community afterschool program located at schools and recreational centers throughout Philadelphia, Chester and Camden. Tennis Instructors must bring a high level of competency, energy and motivation to work in a community/afterschool tennis environment. More importantly, candidates must share a passion for young people. This position involves communication with families and program partners and must be able to represent the organization in a professional manner.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Program:
- Deliver all elements of the program at your site including tennis instruction, fitness and nutrition education:
- Teach age- and level-appropriate tennis skills; utilize QuickStart for beginners o Run fun, organized and well-executed practices and oversee match play
- Enthusiastically deliver and promote non-tennis elements.
- Co-lead with family nights, back to school night, playdays and field trips.
- Develop appropriate and supportive relationships with all participants and families.
- Actively and productively involve all participants in the program while maintaining a safe atmosphere.
- Serve as liaison between Legacy, program partners, and site contacts
- Promptly address all disciplinary incidents or accidents and complete a written report in a timely manner.
- Transport / Chaperone participants in Legacy vans. Valid driver’s license and access to a car preferred
Administration:
- Ensure all administrative work is accurately and promptly completed:
- Ensure all participants have completed registration forms and permission slips
- Take daily attendance
- Complete measurement and evaluation duties:
- Manage all aspects of daily operation of your site in a professional and efficient manner.
- Maintain all equipment and supplies; return all equipment issued to you at the completion of the program
- Actively participate in staff orientation, trainings and meetings with Legacy staff and partners
- Assist with marketing and recruitment efforts when needed.
Required Skills and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent; some college preferred
Preferred Teaching Experience- 2+ years of tennis coaching experience as an NJTL Jr. Instructor or equivalent
- Certified teacher or teacher’s assistant
- Experience working with youth in a recreational setting
- Ability to manage groups efficiently and effectively
- Ability to be a positive role model
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
- Proven ability to problem solve, work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- Demonstrated reliability, maturity, and responsibility

Legacy Youth Tennis and Education is Philadelphia’s premier tennis center with a state of art tennis facility that features 8 indoor and 8 outdoor courts. Legacy’s mission is to prepare youth for success through our inclusive community using tennis, education and character programming. The Center-Based 10 and Under Tennis Instructor works under the direction of Tennis Directors and the Sr. Director of Tennis to deliver high quality, on-court tennis and education programs to a diverse group of participants at LEGACY.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Assist in creating a teaching methodology for 10 and under youth, including, but not limited to, Physical Skills, Tactical, Technical, Mental and Emotional.
- Work with the Director of Talent Identification on creating new and improving current Legacy coaching methodology and clinic groupings.
- Take time each session to figure out how each student learns best to raise the level of competency for the entire group by the end of a clinic.
- Be a role model in consistently showing a high level of respect to each participant, being conscious of equal treatment and attention, and promoting a sense of camaraderie and inclusiveness amongst the group.
- Bring a sense of enthusiasm, preparedness, and commitment to ensure quality programming each session.
- Continuous monitoring of the health and safety of each participant, ensuring the highest standards both on
and off the courts - Responsible for the security of LEGACY equipment and the satisfactory appearance of the Center.
- Assist with maintaining the tennis courts and common areas, keeping areas clean of trash, storing
equipment in a neatly and orderly fashion. - Adhere to all Legacy policies and procedures.
- Attend staff meetings as directed.
- Come to work dressed neatly and professionally, in appropriate tennis clothing.
- Participate in all training and continuing educational activities as directed.
- Be approachable, welcoming, friendly, and enthusiastic.
- Demonstrate integrity and become a strong role model for all LEGACY participants.
- Effectively communicate with participants of all ages, management, and other staff.
- Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintain an excellent standard of
customer service.

Legacy Youth Tennis and Education’s mission is to prepare youth for success through our inclusive community using tennis, education and character programming. We are looking for the right candidate that is able to coach and guide top sectional and national level players to the next level. Ideal candidates will possess a high- level playing background, show intensity on the court, have a desire to join a growing tennis center and be a
positive role model with great character on and off the court. Legacy is a NJTL chapter and provides excellent opportunities for growth and advancement.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Demonstrate the technical and tactical competencies and the proper progressions.
- Maintain a defined pathway for students to progress within their respective clinics, and from one clinic to the
next - Participate in coaches meetings
- Participate in other relevant meetings, trainings, professional development activities, and special events
- Serve as an on-court high-performance tennis coach for Center-based clinics and camps of all levels
- Market and promote clinic to meet enrollment targets
- Manage enrollment and update attendance rosters
- Ensure lessons are being fully implemented and teaching is of high quality
- Provide exceptional customer service to participants and families:
- Ensure timely, effective and accurate communication with families
- Implement and utilize the USTA Player Development philosophies in all programs
- Maintain a presence at local tournaments where clinic participants compete
- Manage relationships with families
- Come to work dressed neatly and professionally
- Assist in promoting all Legacy special events
- Participate in or volunteer for special events where the coaches’ presence or on court assistance is needed
- Assist with maintaining the tennis courts, equipment and common areas; assist in all ball and equipment
changes - Identify opportunities to continuously improve the program, and incorporate feedback from your Supervisor
Required Skills and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Four years of playing high level or tennis coaching experience
- Competitive tennis play a plus
- PTR or USPTA certification highly recommended
- High level of reliability, timeliness, energy and initiative
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate in a clear and succinct
manner - Ability to manage groups with varied abilities efficiently and effectively and to offer constructive feedback
to participants - Well-developed capacity to work effectively in a dynamic team setting with a diverse group of passionate
people

The Center Based Jr. Tennis Instructor works under the direction of the Tennis Coaches, Clinic Leads, Tennis Directors and the Sr. Director of Tennis to deliver high quality, on-court tennis and education programs to a diverse group of participants at LEGACY.
